Exercise and Nutrition Program
1 03 2012In conjunction with a parallel program at Central Elementary School, students, through weekly themed activities in their physical education classes, learn about the importance of good nutrition, rate of perceived exertion, targeting heart rate, setting goals, and monitoring physical activity. This program culminates in a 1-mile/5-K race.

Writing Workshop
1 03 2012Alison Hart, an author of young adult fiction, presents two workshops to 8th grade students, emphasizing the importance of research in the process of writing. Students own research following the first workshop produce well planned short stories and research papers.

Central Bears Mileage Club
1 03 2012Funding provided all necessary items for a six-week before, during, and after school exercise and nutrition program, culminating in a Windy Whirl, 1-mile/5-K race for students, faculty, and staff.

Robotics Program

Students are exposed to basic electronics, the impact of robotics on our society, the actual construction of robotics, and participation in the TSA/VES “Technosphere” competition every year. This program activates interest in math, science, technology, and over-all problem-solving skills.

One School, One Book Program
17 11 2011Every student, grades pre-K-5, receives a copy of the novel Trumpet of the Swan by E.B White to take home. Every night parents are encouraged to listen to their children read the assigned number of pages or read to them. Follow-up at school throughout the month generates enthusiasm for reading, and a family night featuring art, discussion, and prizes is the culmination of this community-wide reading program.

Boxerwood Field Program
